Learning music in a fun way gets results. When students love music and love their instrument, they are eager to try ... and try again. And they are delighted at every bit of progress they make along the way. Music games, playing duets with the teacher, listening to recordings, explaining how the body works and how the brain learns, encouraging curiosity - these are all part of the lessons.  I approach teaching with kindness and encouragement and a little humor mixed in, setting the stage for students to love the learning process.

 

Depending on age and other factors, a private lesson can last a half hour, 45 minutes or an hour. For the most advanced players, more than an hour can be appropriate. For beginners, two lessons a week is recommended to get a solid start. Otherwise, one lesson per week is standard and helps ensure good progress. I recommend that a parent or guardian attend the lessons to better help the student practice effectively between lessons.
